Types of Computers

Computers help us with our daily lives when we may not even know it. There are also different kinds of computers other than the personal computer that also help us in more harder tasks. But what are these other computers and how are we benefiting from their skills? There are 4 main types of computers. All these computers have different capabilities. Theses computers are: personal computers, mainframes, dedicated computers and embedded computers. They all help us in different ways, in different places and for different purposes. So, what do they do and how have they impacted upon society? Personal Computers- These computers may only be used by one person at a single time. The biggest ones are the ones you have at home that fit on a desktop. Some personal computers may be given additional microprocessors so as to perform special tasks like graphics, maths, sound etc. The uses for personal computers are very widespread. They are used in companies and at homes, and have many features that help us with simple to complicated tasks. These tasks may include writing up an assignment on a wordprocessor, storing information in a file, research a particular subject and so on. Personal computers can also be used for educational purposes, leisure (games) listening to music, watching movies, use of the Internet and a whole lot more. Also, portable types of personal computers have been made such as the laptop, notebook computers and PDA's. †¢Mainframes- This type of computer is the fastest of them all. They use a big storage system and so they are able to do more of the complicated tasks and handle more information. Mainframes are the largest of the different types of computers and must be stored in several large cabinets. Some mainframes may be able to do several tasks while others might only be able to perform only one. Unlike personal computers, mainframes may have hundreds of people logged on at the same time. The users are said to be time sharing as the computer quickly swapping between users , doing little bits of work before going to another. The supercomputer, the fastest of the mainframes, are used to do even more complex projects like the design of aircraft. Although they are extremely powerful, there aren't too many of them as they are also extremely expensive. The fastest of the the supercomputers are parallel computers. Dedicated Computers- These are special-purpose machines. Some include wordprocessors and video-game units. The smallest of the video-game units are the battery-operated ones such as the gameboy. Larger ones are the ones which plug into the tv like the XBox and the Playstation. The biggest of them all are found in game arcades. †¢Embedded Computers- These are control units built into the devices they control. Examples of embedded computers are telephones, digital watches and VCR's. Aircraft and robots also have embedded computers inside them and missiles have them to direct them to their targets. Costco Pay and Benefit Essay

Consequently, many of them are part of a union and hold strikes known as â€Å"Black Friday Strike†, to fight against their job dissatisfaction. Furthermore, Weissmann (2012) goes on to state that Costco is paying their employees â€Å"commendably† better. As demonstrated in figure one, the average wage for a Cost Co cashier, after 5 years of employment is approximately 64% higher than that of an employee at the Wal-Mart Empire (McArdle 2012). Moreover the commentary of Business Week Magazine quotes â€Å"At Costco, it’s better to be an employee or a customer than a shareholder,† says Deutsche Bank†. By showing generosity to employees, they are able to retain them (Commentary:The Costco Way 2004). This is unlike at Wal-Mart where are higher focus is made on shareholder value (Weissmann 2012). Additionally, no Costco employees are part of a union in Washington State (Frey 2004). This only goes to show that employees at Costco are generally satisfied and as such they have no need to join a union, as they have no criticisms on employee treatment. Despite remarks that Costco has more employee value than shareholder value, figure two demonstrates otherwise. Where Costco’s market price had risen constantly over the past 5 years, Wal-mart’s market price has been relatively constant (Yahoo Finance 2013). One particular employee was offer a biannual bonus and had been given time off paid after suffering health issues (Frey 2004). Moreover, Costco offers health care and life insurance although it should be noted that most companies, particularly in USA where health care is not free. As depicted in figure one, Cost co pays for 82% of their employee’s medical costs. However at Wal-Mart, only 50% of health care expenses are paid for, meaning the employee bears 50% of the costs. Additionally, Employees at Cost co can also add family members and de-facto partners to the program and increase their package (Costco 2013). Furthermore, they offer mental care to employees and their families (Costco Wholesale 2011). The 31 December 2012 annual report goes on detail that they do not attempt to minimise wages and benefits but to ensure their satisfaction and reduce employee turnover (Costco 2012). However Costco also has a share scheme where by employees at Costco are offered shares if they have been employees for a substantial period of time (Costco 2012). Additionally, employees also benefit from â€Å"retirement plans† if they complete at least 90 days on the job (Costco 2012). Although it is not offered to employees who are members of the California Union (Costco 2012). One could assume that this retirement scheme was offered to employees to reduce their turnover. Hence Costco will replicate in act of good faith. DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH In terms of the development and growth of their employee’s one motivator factor that creates much satisfaction is the fact that Costco promotes internally (Katsarski 2008). The chance of a promotion may motivate employees to perform better and to persevere with their employment. This is reflected by their low turnover rate (Katsarski 2008). In 2009, the turnover rate, for the average employee at Costco, was 12%, which was considerable lower than the industry average (Ruggeri 2009). It appears as though the CEO of Costco understands that employees have needs and desires to grow professionally. The locals call it the â€Å"Parma Dome† because of the immense concentration of rain in the small town of Parma. â€Å"You never can trust the weather radar because we live in Parma,† my resident Betty said. Betty was a retired factory worker who lived in Parma her entire life. After standing on cement floors, she had no cartilage left in either knee. My church arrived in Ohio along with 500 teens, all looking forward to a week of service to the Parma Community. I was placed on a crew of teenagers and adults from across the country. Our assignment and challenge: construct a wheelchair ramp in four days. Day one went smoothly, as we plotted where to dig the post holes. Each hole, fourteen in all, dug 42 inches deep, in the hard clay packed soil of Ohio. As the day came to an end my crew leader announced, â€Å"Kids, we are going to pull overtime to get this done. With only hours left we hurriedly, yet near expertly, cemented nine of the fourteen post holes. As we prepared to retire for the evening, our resident reminded us, â€Å"This is the Parma Dome, don’t forget.† Hearing this, we quickly covered all the remaining post holes, just in case of another Dome downpour. Only having to nine post holes dug and cemented, we had stacks of wood looking us in the face, with two days left. Thursday went smoothly. With no rain the night before, we cemented the post holes within an hour. Then, we picked away at the huge stack of wood that would put Home Depot to shame. By the end of the day, we had the framing for the ramp completed. Although proud of our accomplishments, with only one day left, our crew knew that we still had great deal of work ahead. Friday, our final day, was the toughest. It had rained nonstop Thursday night and there were no signs of the rain letting up. However, on our way back to Betty’s house, the â€Å"Parma Dome† lifted. Though the rain stopped, the wood was still soaking wet, which caused our saw to seize up on every cut. This continued throughout the morning. By three o’clock in the afternoon, our usual departure time, we had the flooring in place, but we needed railings and spindles. The assignment handed to us early in the week was simply to build this wheelchair ramp. Leaving now, with the job incomplete, was not an option. So we ventured on. We formed an assembly line. Someone cut spindles, another the railings, and I hammered and nailed securing them all in place. By dusk we were exhausted, but the task was complete. Our crew had come together and built a sixty foot wheel chair ramp in four short days, despite the â€Å"Parma Dome.† We did not give up, unlike several groups who left their sites earlier. Betty, and her ability to move about more freely, was far too important to us. We overcame obstacles: heavy rain, damp wood, bad materials, and time. As a crew we practiced problem solving. There are several ways to complete a job, but only a few ways to do it productively. I was teamed with five random strangers and given a challenging task. We came together, fought through the difficulties, and tackled the wheelchair ramp head on. What went unnoticed that week was the mental toughness that I gained, though the trial and tribulation of the ramp. Now no matter what the challenge I know I have the mental and the physical toughness to succeed, all thanks to a group of strangers and a women named Betty.

When Romeo arrives at the tomb the police surround him. He takes a priest as a hostage so he wont be shot. When he enters the tomb he walks to Juliet. This is where the most important difference is. Juliet starts to awaken while Romeo recites his speech. They are both alive and looking at each other for a few seconds then Romeo dies. The biggest controversy is if Juliet had even utter ed the faintest noise it may have stopped Romeo from drinking the poison. When a person interprets anothers work the interpreter may loose key values and change the story completely. Therefore the interpreter must be extremely careful.
